Clubs have recently submitted their retained and released lists giving fellow teams an idea of which players are available for free this offseason.

Several big names are available on a free transfer. This is the time of year clubs can add a top player to their squads at a discounted price.

Looking around the lists of available players, here a 5 top Premier League players available for a free transfer this summer.

1. Daniel Sturridge

Possible destination: Arsenal, Celtic, Rangers

Daniel Sturridge’s departure from Liverpool wasn’t a big surprise. He spent seven seasons at Anfield but injuries sidelined him for large parts of each. The 2018-19 season was his healthiest but Sturridge failed to hold down a place in the team despite a strong start to the term.

Arsenal are a possible destination, however, he may not fit into the tactics employed by Unai Emery. Scotland powerhouses Celtic and Rangers are also linked with the striker. He would be an upgrade to the strikers on offer at the two Glasgow-based clubs.

2. Danny Welbeck

Possible destination: Everton

Danny Welbeck spent most of the 2018-19 season injured with a broken leg. Now healthy, Welbeck has been released by Arsenal and could be a clever piece of business by a Premier League team.

The former Manchester United striker has already been linked to Everton, who could use a forward to replace the misfiring Cenk Tosun. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Welbeck end up at a club that finished in the bottom half of the English Premier League last season, however.

3. Juan Mata

Possible destination: Manchester United, Valencia

Manchester United have extended a new contract offer to free agent Juan Mata, so it could be a matter of days before he inks a new deal.

Mata spent the last five and a half seasons at Old Trafford but seemed an afterthought for the club. Mata is the type of player a club doesn’t think it needs until they are gone.

The midfielder does have options back in Spain and could return to Valencia. Mata’s numbers were down in 2018-19, three goals and two assists, but he did only play 22 Premier League games.

4. Andy Carroll

Possible destination: West Brom Albion

Since moving to Liverpool in 2011 for £35 million, Andy Carroll’s career has been a slow downward spiral. There is a belief that Carroll could regain his best form if he finds the right club.

Perhaps a step down to the Championship would work wonders for Carroll. The striker’s best career season came a decade ago in the Championship for Newcastle when he tallied 19 goals in all competitions.

Former West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has been interviewed by the West Brom Albion. If Bilic gets the job, a move for the former Hammers striker could be on the cards.

5. Albero Moreno

Possible destinations: Arsenal, Lazio, Sevilla, Valencia

Alberto Moreno may not have been a favourite of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, but several clubs around Europe are seeking his signature.

Turkish football news websites have claimed Moreno is interested in a return to Spain. Moreno came through Sevilla’s ranks and the Spanish side has been linked with re-signing the left-back in the past.

Arsenal have also been linked with Moreno, which could intrigue the left-back. Emery managed Moreno at Sevilla from 2012 to 2014. The full-back could be a hot commodity as at 26, Moreno still could find his best form.

Moreno needs to regain his confidence following losing the left-back position at Anfield to both Andrew Robertson and James Milner.
